General local elections are being held in November to elect one Mayor and four Councillors for a term commencing December 2011 and terminating November 2014.

Who can Vote?

You can vote as a Resident Elector if you meet the following criteria:

  • Canadian citizen
  • 18 years of age on general voting day
  • A resident of BC for at least 6 months before you register to vote
  • A resident of the Village of Lumby for at least 30 days before you register to vote
  • Not disqualified by the Local Government Act or any other Act, from voting in an election or otherwise disqualified by law

You can vote as a Non-Resident Elector if you meet the following criteria:

  • Canadian citizen
  • 18 years of age on general voting day
  • A resident of BC for at least 6 months before you register to vote
  • A registered owner of real property in the Village of Lumby for at least 30 days before you register to vote
  • Not eligible to register as a resident elector in the Village of Lumby
  • If the property is owned by more than one person, only one owner may register and vote in relation to that property, and that owner must have the written consent of the majority of owners

When can I vote?

General Voting Day for the 2011 Municipal Election is Saturday, November 19, 2011. Advance Voting will take place on Wednesday, November 9, 2011. Voting hours for both dates are 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Where can I vote?

On General Voting Day, Saturday, November 19, 2011, voting will be in the Council Chambers located at the Municipal Office at 1775 Glencaird Street.

On Advance Voting Day, Wednesday, November 9, 2011, voting will be in the Council Chambers located at the Municipal Office at 1775 Glencaird Street.

Do I need identification to vote?

Resident electors will be required to produce 2 pieces of identification (at least one with a signature). Picture identification is not necessary. The identification must prove both residency and identity.

Non-resident property electors must produce 2 pieces of identification (at least one with a signature) to prove identity, proof that they are entitled to register in relation to the property (only a copy of property title, registered agreement for sale or 99 year lease document will be accepted – tax or assessment documents are not acceptable), and, if applicable, written consent from the other property owners.
